Many professional work roles require you to use applications and technologies in addition to the typical Microsoft Office suite. Whether it's a customer relationship management system, a marketing automation tool, or a human resources application, you need to stay in the know. So if you're juggling more than one, check out these tips to help you stay up to date.
Subscribe to the application's newsletter or blog. Many applications will communicate product updates and new features to users in their blog or newsletter. If you don't have time or forget to check, subscribe to receive email notifications for new posts. If you don't have time to read it immediately, mark it as important in your inbox and come back to it later.
Follow the product on social media. If you're a social media fan, follow your product's page. Even if you don't visit their specific Facebook or Twitter page everyday their posts will show up in your feed. While you're casually browsing your own feed, you may come across some useful information without any additional effort.
Attend conferences. Going to conferences hosted by the products you use is a great way to stay updated. Many companies offer several sessions that teach you different ways to use their application that could help in your everyday job duties. It's also common for conferences to set up an expo to showcase other tools you may not be aware of which provides you with a great opportunity to learn about other resources that could benefit you and your colleagues.
Ask about training courses. Take the time to see if the company offers training courses. They may offer online, in person or certifications for their product. They may also host a support website or online forum so you can post questions and receive support from existing users.
Check out technology newsletters. Staying relevant with other tools and technology is important too. Read online newsletters like Tech Insider from Business Insider, Digital Trends, or The Fetch to keep yourself updated and in the know.
